The Message of Easter: Go and Make Disciples! (Matthew 28)

Dear Reader, if you are new here and curious, or are looking for answers immediately, please follow this link to our Start Here page: https://hewasraised.wordpress.com/about/. The Start Here page is designed as the beginning point of this website to which these further posts correspond. Thank you, and may “the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (2 Corinthians 13:14, NIV).

The following sermon, preached on April 16th, 2017, Easter Sunday, focuses on the NEW LIFE of Jesus on Easter for all of us today. TODAY we can be empowered by the new life of Jesus through the Holy Spirit, and God’s new creational power will propel us into God’s mission, to “go and make disciples.”

Many people do not realize that Easter is about God’s mission. Jesus says “Surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). But where is Jesus? Jesus is with us IN MISSION, to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). Yes, absolutely, the resurrection and new life of Christ constitute the center of Easter—but we have to ask: why? The answer is mission. Christ died for the sins of the world to instill within believers the power of His new life through the Holy Spirit for the purpose of mission! The mission of God is to bless all peoples through the chosen seed, who is the raised Jesus Christ. That mission has not changed; Easter is the means to new life for the purpose of God’s mission. Now, because of Easter, we go with Christ on the *CO-* mission of God.
