The following sermon, preached on June 4th, 2017, focuses on spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts are a hot topic today. What are they? What does Scripture mean by them? Don’t folks in churches lie when they pretend to work miracles? What about speaking in tongues? The message is that together the body of Christ in community through the Spirit of God works together to build each other up for the purpose of God’s mission in the world——spreading the Gospel and glorifying God. The Spirit gifts us according to God’s purposes to accomplish God’s work of doing justice, loving mercy (Micah 6:8), and tangibly rescuing people from danger and sin. Love is the most excellent way and the greatest spiritual gift, because all other gifts like tongues and prophecies, will fade away (1 Corinthians 13). However, in our modern society we have forgotten that true love really is a spiritual gift——something profound and rare. Hear what Scripture has to say about the spiritual gifts in this sermon.
